About TRE®

TRE® (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) is a gentle, body led approach that works directly with the nervous system to support release and restoration.

Developed by Dr. David Berceli in the 1990s, based on his observations in war-torn regions of Africa, where he saw people’s natural shaking response to stress. He formalised this innate release mechanism into the TRE® method.

The method uses simple exercises to activate the body’s natural reflex for releasing tension — a spontaneous shaking or tremoring response which is part of our innate healing capacity.

Once you learn the method, regular self practice can lead to long term support for your well-being and healing journey.

When the body leads, healing follows

Top-down approaches to healing such as talk therapy, meditation, and mindfulness can offer valuable insight and support. But sometimes despite our best efforts, the same patterns keep resurfacing.

This is because some patterns are held deeper, not just in the mind, but in the body and nervous system itself.

TRE® offers a different path. It doesn’t rely on talking or analysis. Instead, it invites your body to gently unwind and release what it’s ready to, at a pace that allows you to safely integrate what it’s ready to let go of, leading to long-term nervous system health

As a newer practice, TRE® is building a growing body of evidence. Early studies and extensive global experience point to its effectiveness, with larger-scale research ongoing.
